Attard 5K Race & Route Info

The 2020 Attard 5k – Friday 9th October (new date)

We are able to stage this event as long as we implement measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

The following are the most salient measures:

There will be no more than 300 participants in each race.
Social distancing must be maintained at the start (We will be providing 3 separate open areas for the participants of each race to wait till they are called up to the start line.
Masks must be worn until participants cross the start line and must be worn again after they cross the finish line.
Participants will start in groups of 15 every 1 minute.
Finishers will have to collect their own medal and water and move straight on to their cars.
There will no award ceremony, awards will have to be collected from a named Intersport outlet.
Spectators should not attend and participants should come to the event alone.
Officials must wear masks or visors throughout the duration of both races.

Applications open:

Official application closing date:
30th August 2020 including receipt of the application fee or earlier if no more applications can be accepted. Applications are only guaranteed and confirmed upon receipt of the application fee which will be on a first come first served basis. The Organiser reserves the right to change the Official closing date at any time without prior notice. To Apply, go to the Application Forms page, late applications may not be accepted.

Participants must register and collect their race number, timing chips and pins from Intersport, Sliema(Piazetta) on Thursday the 8th of October from 1800 to 2100.

Race numbers can only be collected by giving the registration official the applicant’s ID number or Passport Number, whichever was used to apply for the 2020 Intersport Attard 5K.

Race numbers can be collected on behalf of an applicant by another person, however the ID number or Passport Number, whichever was used to apply for the 2020 Intersport Attard 5K must be given to the registration official.

There will be no need to have the ID or passport in hand, the number will be enough.

The first 600 males and females who apply and pay the application fee and who are at least 11 years old on the day of the race.

5k Application Fees:
€10.00 for applications and fees received by the 15th August 2020.

€12.00 for applications and fees received from the 16th August 2020 to the 30th August 2020.

€15.00  for applications and fees received and accepted after these dates.

Application fees for participants registering on-line may be paid either by credit card or by bank transfer.

When paying the application fee by bank transfer, the Application Code must be included in the transaction details of the bank transfer.

Application status:
Applicants applying on-line will automatically receive an email with the participant details as submitted, the application status at this stage would be Processed Not Paid.

Applicants paying on-line by credit card immediately after having applied on-line will automatically receive an email with the participant details as submitted, the application status at this stage would be Confirmed.

Applicants applying and paying the application fee by bank transfer will receive an email with the participant details as submitted or with any adjustments requested by the applicant. The application status at this stage would be Confirmedas long as the fee is received before the race is full and the applications are closed.

Application fees:
Application fees are non refundable and cannot be transferred to another event, even if in the unlikely event that the event is not held for whatever reason.

Race numbers, pins and timing chips:
Race numbers, pins and timings chips will be given out at registration. 

Do not remove or tamper with your timing chip. The timing chip is embedded in a white strip at the back of the number.
Under no circumstance should you ever cross the start and finish lines with somebody else’s timing chip on you. Do not give your race number to anyone else, this could lead to your disqualification from future MEOL organised races.

New route:
Both the start and finish shall be from where there is the open air gym on the old Ta Kali runway.

1st km - Stadium.
2nd km - Crafts village.
3rd km - American Embassy
4th km - Triq San Gabku (Monti).

Both the start and finish shall be from Pitkali Road, close by to Santa Katarina Old Peoples Home. The route shall go up to Ta' Qali and out on to the Rabat Road and down back to the finish using part of the Vodafone Malta Marathon route.

Start to 1km - Triq Pitkali to American Embassy in Ta' Qali.
1km to 2km - Vjal L-istadium Nazzjonali Ta' Qali.
2km to 3km - Vjal L-istadium Nazzjonali & Triq L-imdina.
3km to 4km - Triq L-imdina, Triq Il-Linja & Triq Dun Mikiel Xerri.
4km to Finish - Triq Il-Gibjun, Triq Pitkali.

Start times:
The 1st start will be at 1730 Hrs. Participants with numbers from 1 to 500 must start at 1730.
The 2nd start will be at 1815 Hrs. Participants with numbers from 501 to 999must start at 1815.

Participants cannot choose their start time. Participants will start in groups of 15 every 1 minute. Participants will be advised at registration and by email of their starting time.

Finish line:
The finish line will close at 1815 for those that start at 1730 and at 1900 for those that start at 1815, San Michel and Powerade will be provided at the finish.

Commemorative award:
All athletes finishing before their finish closes will be able to collect their presented with a commemorative medal after as they cross the finish line.

There will be no award ceremony after the event. The awards can be collected from one of the Intersport outlets, which will be named at a later stage, once the results are out 

Special awards for 2020:

Award ceremony:
The award ceremony will be held in the morning at the finish towards the end of the event. Hang around because you or a friend of yours may have won an award. The MEOL is not responsible for awards not collected in person by the winners during the award giving ceremony.

Team competition:
A team may represent any club or group, a team will consist of 3 runners.  Every 3 same sex, members of a club or group, who finish the event will be classified as having participated in the team competition.  Runners who do NOT name their team on their application form will NOT be classified as having participated in the team competition. Requests for team changes after an application form has been sent in, may only be made by the participant himself or herself. Team names deemed offensive or otherwise may not be accepted by the organisers.  Team awards will be based on the overall positions of the individual team members.  If 2 or more teams finish on equal points the top places will be awarded to the first team/s whose last participant finishes before the other team's last particpant.

Results will be available from the Malta Marathon website once they have been made official, participants who registered on-line or by post and who have given a valid and clear email address will be advised by email when the results are available.

Other race information: 
The following are some important race details.

  1. Toilet facilities will be available close to the start and finish.
  2. Athletes who in any way deface or fold their race number are liable to disqualification; numbers are to be worn on the front and are to be clearly visible.
  3. Athletes who are not clearly behind the start line at the start of their race are also liable to disqualification.
  4. Faster athletes should be given preference to stay at the front of the starting line, please do not hinder faster runners.
  5. Kilometres will be marked along the route. KMs are not necessarily precise but may only be indicative.
  6. There will be traffic police and wardens to control traffic in various parts of the route but remember the route is not traffic free, so we urge you to be cautious and where possible run on the pavements. Better to be safe than a couple of seconds faster.
